Artist Statement

My work is syncretic as I purposefully piece together disparate elements within design, culture and systems of thought. These elements are manifested through a variety of materials and processes that are meant to reflect these relationships between these disparities as well as my own experience with displacement.

The eclecticism of my surroundings has deeply influenced the manner in which I perceive things and how I process information both visually and conceptually. As I work, I am particularly interested in the “cross-pollination” or “cross-breeding” of imagery originating from multiple sources.

These explorations are communicated and materialized, utilizing various media and techniques mainly stitching, fabrics and printed media. In a sense, the creative process is mapped using systems of organization ranging from straightforward diagrammatic flow charts to idiosyncratic gestures. I refer to this seemingly empirical process as a ceremonial act of intuition, invocation and conceptualization.
